It’s June. How do you feel?

I made an amazing contact yesterday. Thanks to that person for ending a crazy month on the right note. This morning, I woke up to six teenage girls in swimsuits, all doing their makeup. If they jump in the pool, do they understand that they will look like raccoons?

Oh and my daughter has a boyfriend. They have their own name like Bennifer. It is mind boggling. So personally, I feel like I have been knocked up the head with reality. Shit Shit Shit

I want to yell out to Give Me Books and Australia1531651_250889655086769_2119011928_n for your love of The Chosen Series. I am so excited. I love that my books have gone international. The UK, Canada, and Japan also deserve a shout out.

One Missing Link is free. Not sure how long. It was a silly little attempt at a thriller, since my next series has creepy elements in the place of humor. I personally don’t like it so please give me honest reviews. I love negative reviews. Most authors don’t. But my MBA businessman babes studies that negative reviews draws more attention than good ones. So press that one star! I would.

So how are you feeling this first day of June? I feel content and happy. I am grateful that my daughter has beautiful friends, my son has a juice mustache and my babes is taking a much needed nap.

Go Spurs. San Antonio is a very happy place to live in right now – even in this humid heat that makes me gag.

This morn

There is one scene in Unchosen where I will sob when I read it, no matter how many times. Mind you, I don’t read my books but sometimes I reread that scene when a reader mentions it and wants to discuss. It came to me as I laid in bed waiting for my brain and body to wake up one morning in March. I wrote that scene in thirty minutes. It was all right there, laid out in my brain and my fingers just flew. I think that is when I broke the E key on my laptop. SOAB

So…. Why do you care?

It happened again this morning. Jules and I are already such beautiful friends. We just went through a scene in my head(yes dictated and noted) that had me bawling for a half an hour. My kid asked me where I put clean shorts. She noticed the snot and thick answer and I saw her worry for a moment until her face went bland.  She asked “a new scene?” I nodded and she bounced out of the room. Nicceee kid. A hug would have been nice.

Someone once asked how is it that ideas (or I like to call them scenes) come to me. Well I can answer that now without any doubt. It is when my brain is completely free of worry or stress or to do lists or someone else’s mood affecting me.  There is no better time than first thing in the morning.

End of May Hello and Goodbye

Thanks so much for those who have come to read and love Lizzie.

One question needs to be answered. YES – Unrequited is live. It released on May 24th, 2014. (Real Life Nick and Lizzie’s anniversary). It seemed fitting. Anyway -yes go search my amazon page and you will see Book #3 behind all that red hair.

AND NO – It is not the last in The Chosen Series. I want two more books to come from the brood. Sean and Freddie. But after I write about Jules, Emmy, Angie. So…. it will happen – just don’t know the timeline.

May was fun. My kids worked hard at state tests, my babes worked hard on certifications at work,I sold over 150 necklaces (Devika Knots) and well, I published two books. It was fun.

So some info on Plastic Confidence – I am looking forward to taking my time with Jules and Brennan and the Love Sick Ponies (yes Lizzie and Nick make three cameos) but this book, like my others, do have deeper themes that some may or may not catch. I will never forget dissecting short stories and poems in college. The undertones, the foreshadowing through humor or small snippets of conversation that applies to the theme about what life can be like as a young woman. The twenties are some of the hardest years. I know that I was THRILLED when I turned 30.  Now, I am not so thrilled to be turning 40. Babes says to suck it up.

But anyways – Back to the point…. Look closely. We all have at least one fear or insecurity as a young woman, right? In each of my books, I present the reader with a different one, a secretive but profound question that only you can answer for yourself. So as you wonder how something rings true for you, remember to be good to yourself. Make sure to love you the most out of everyone in the world. It isn’t self centered. You were put on this earth to learn about yourself as you grow. Enjoy it.

I am well on my way- have run the outline or plot or whatever it is. My undercover lover and I have talked for hours and she has agreed to my ideas. Thank God. She is a tough woman to please. Oh and UCL? Sorry for having a million aha moments… It is kinda annoying, isn’t it? Anyways, she has given me the Green Light. On chapter five and can’t wait to write some of these scenes.

I am also reading a ton! 13 Reasons Why, Sweet Filthy Boy, Song for Us, Pride and Prejudice (a monthly must to honor the great literature of all time) and Emily Giffin’s new book. Woo. That’s a list.

I love listening to your reviews, both disappointed responses and praise. Unfortunately, if I changed up my books to make everyone happy- well I am not sure it would even resemble a book. More like a bullet point document. I could create a power point! I love doing those. LOL

Enjoy your June. Get a tan and love you and yours.

BLOG HOP TOUR!! MY TURN!

I’ve been invited to participate in a writing process blog hop… it’s a weekly ‘tag you’re it’ deal. I was told the idea was started by Maya Banks www.maya-rock.com ,but Maya herself says it can be traced much further back than her. I don’t care who started it, I absolutely LOVE the idea. This is my week and I was tagged by the incredible Renee Dyer. If you’ve never read Renee’s work, you are missing out. Please, Please, Please go look her up. https://www.facebook.com/AuthorReneeDyer.

I was introduced to Renee through social media sites and she and I have built a fun and supportive rapport. I am very honored to be a part of her tag team!

Here are the questions that Renee asked me! Here they are!

Alisa Mullen Alisa Mullen

1) What am I working on?

Presently, I am finishing up “Unrequited” the 3rd book in the Chosen Series. I am also working on a new series. It is in the romantic suspense genre, which is relatively new to me. I was recently voted into a group that I love. WARS is a group of writers who specifically write in the suspense romance genre. We have a fan page on Facebook and I think a twitter account but I am not sure about that. My assistants take care of those things so I can write! In addition to that, I am working on a special project that shall remain a secret for the next few months. It is something new and very exciting for me.

2)How does my work differ from others of its genre?

New Adult is quite new. We are stretching the boundaries with the New adult genre overlapping with erotica books. Nonetheless NA is very popular, erotica or not. My novels are about romantic coming of age for broken women (but without the whips and chains)LOL. I do have sex scenes but they are very sensual. I like to show more intimacy and real life love making.

The next series will be NA romance and thriller at the same time. It is a nice balance of emotions for the reader. You can be petrified and then you lose yourself in the loving relationship. It’s a great concept really.

3)Why do I write what I do?

I write stories based on experiences in life. Most of my books are based on events or people that I have known in the past. I went through awful heartache (Unsettled), trust issues (Unchosen) and manipulation (Unrequited). I have also experienced many paranormal events through out my life. As a child, I especially was infatuated with murder stories. I worked for a Missing Persons Agency and have seen many dead bodies. I recognize the smell. I see the parasites. I also had a family member (that had passed on) present themselves when I was down and out. That experience changed my life because I followed their advice.

I have a complex mind, a little mania, a little depression. I write like I am an actor. I cry during the scenes that are suppose to make the reader cry. I get mad when the reader should get mad. If I don’t have a profound feeling during those scenes than I know it isn’t any good. I have to feel it first before it is exposed to others.

4)How does your writing process work?

I will be in the shower and an idea hits me. I have to crawl out of the shower naked and write it down. If I don’t, it is lost. I will wake up in the middle of the night and a scene from a book that I am writing presents itself, so I bring up my laptop and start typing (sorry honey). A story comes to me and I talk to my best friend and cousin about it. I outline what I can for reference, but it never turns out the way I plan. Writing is an art form. Think of it like this… I am going to paint an owl on this canvas and I see it. The end piece is nothing like I imagined but somehow it is awesome but in a different way. When I start to type, my fingers take it away and I am no longer in the present. I don’t answer to my name being called, I don’t think about anything I have to do in reality. I am solely in the story. When I put it away, I take a few minutes to readjust myself into my world as Alisa. It is such a fascinating process. It blows my mind.

Now, it’s my turn to tag three authors. They will post their writing process and tag three more authors Monday, May 12th

First up is Nina Ceves. I have the pleasure of being in a few author groups with Nina. She and I are fellow Bostonians transplanted to different parts of the country. She has a great sense of humor and I admire her voice in her novels. It is a pleasure to have her as one of my authors.
Nina Ceves

Nina’s Bio:
Nina Ceves writes romantic fiction. One Month Stand is first in the About Time series, Opposite Day is the second in the About Time series. The Romance Novel Cure is the first in the Incurable Romantic series. A spin off to The Romance Novel Cure is coming soon: Dreaming Silas, which is first in the Dark Shifters series.

Nina Ceves wants to tell you stories about what happens when her imaginary friends fall in love. She is married to the love of her life, and he’s real. When not writing novels, she can be found gazing into space, murmuring. She won a ghost story contest one Halloween and it went to her head.

Up next is Lori Ryan. She and I met through a small author group and realized that she lives in Austin, so we are less than an hour apart! We speak almost daily about projects and coordinating a signing for local authors. I adore her already and can’t wait to watch our friendship grow.
Lori Ryan
Lori’s bio:
Lori Ryan is a NY Times and USA Today bestselling author who writes contemporary romance with a twist of suspense. She lives with an extremely understanding husband, two wonderful children, two mostly-behaved dogs, and a lone little cat in Austin, Texas. It’s a bit of a zoo, but she wouldn’t change a thing.

Lori published her first novel in April of 2013 and has written three more books since then. Each of Lori’s books have made their way to the Amazon bestseller list and she quickly climbed the Amazon bestselling author list, as well. In November, 2013, Lori and a group of romantic suspense authors landed on the USA Today and NY Times bestseller lists with an anthology only eight months after the release of Lori’s first book. Lori loves to connect with her readers. Follow her on Facebook or Twitter or subscribe to her blog. Writers live and die by their reviews and Lori promises to do a happy dance around her office every time you write one!

For Lori’s steamier romance, read the Sutton Capital Series. If you prefer a sweetheart romance, read Lori’s new Evers, Texas Series!

Last, but certainly not least is Sarah Robinson. Not only has she been a mentor to me over the past few months, but she is a good friend. We have a blast bantering with each other. It helps to have a great laugh when we are having a “stuck” day.

Sarah Robinson

Sarah’s bio:
Sarah Robinson is a native of the Washington, DC area and has both her Bachelors and Masters Degree in psychology while working as a mental health therapist with poor and homeless populations with severe mental illnesses as well as an advocate for a national cancer research foundation. Her previous work experiences include working in a sex offender rehabilitation center, teaching victim empathy classes in an adult detention center, and counseling schizophrenic patients. All of these in depth work experiences in such intense environments have given her a plethora of experiences to draw from when writing crime dramas.

Writing has been her hobby since high school and she has been published several times from poetry to articles to short stories, and now novels. Her most recent article was published on Indie Writer’s Guide. Her most recent poetry was published in Blue Ink Literary Magazine.

Sarah Robinson’s Sand & Clay was her first full length novel and will have a sequel coming out in 2015. Sand & Clay reached Amazon’s Top 100 Hot Reads in October 2013. Her second book is called Tainted Bodies and is the first part of The Photographer Trilogy. Tainted Bodies came out on January 1st, 2014 with other parts of the trilogy to follow later in 2014. She also has a large following on the popular social media site for book lovers, Goodreads. Sarah Robinson’s Facebook fan site quickly exploded when she created it in September 2013 and has now reached over 9,600 likes. She updates it personally and loves interacting with her fans through all her social media platforms. Several blogs have also highlighted Sarah’s work including a one week blog tour in October 2013 highlighting her first novel, Sand & Clay, in which over 40 blogs participated in reviews, promos, cover reveals, interviews, and giveaways. This was followed by a second blog tour in February 2014 for her second book, Tainted Bodies, in which 65 blogs participated. Her third book, Tainted Pictures, will be the second installment in The Photographer Trilogy following Tainted Bodies and came out on April 18th, 2014!
Her writing often concentrates on the complexity of love and emotions and the struggles of finding your destined path through life as well as overcoming life’s tragedies and misfortunes. She combines psychological complexities and human emotions to create very real characters experiencing life in a very real way. Her books focus on redemption and forgiveness, learning to build on what has been broken.
Much of her inspirations come from the amazing love she shares with her new husband, Justin Robinson, and the emotions around falling head over heels in love with your soul mate. She and her new husband are also big animal rescue enthusiasts and have 16 pets as well as volunteering with multiple animal shelters and rescues. Together, they own a zoo of rescues including 2 dogs, 3 cats, 4 kittens, 1 box turtle, 1 snapping turtle, 3 smaller aquatic turtles, a baby beta fish named Jarvis, and a slew of minnow fish including several recent birth of almost 50 baby minnow fishies. Her celebrity idol is Ellen Degeneres, she even named one of her dogs after her (a Shih Tzu-Bichon mix named Elly) and she never misses a show, thanks to the powers of DVR!
